Pet Peeve: Starbucks Etiquette

So, I went to a very crowded Starbucks this morning and ordered my usual triple-grande latte. Nice and simple. I felt sorry for the poor barista, who was alone on the machine and clearly overworked. I get in line behind the other 5 people or so waiting around the bar. While I’m sitting there waiting, a rather large man in a business suit loudly orders the same thing I did, and walks over. The barista calls out my drink order and before I can say a word, the guy, who just walked over after paying, grabs it and walks out the door.

Granted, he didn’t know it was mine, but it should still be rather obvious that in a crowded Starbucks with 5 people waiting ahead of you, your drink will not be ready within a minute of you ordering it. This is just common sense, and also why they normally write your name on the cup.

Still, no biggie. I’m a little irritated, but another one is coming up soon for me (the one the guy behind me actually ordered) so it’s not a problem. Meanwhile, the woman who ordered in front of me is getting tired of waiting and starts bitching at the barista, saying she’s making things out of order and skipping stuff. Seriously woman, just because you’re impatient and in a hurry is no excuse for not treating people with dignity and lecturing them about how to do their job. Why is it so hard for people to imagine themselves in the shoes of others sometimes? Ok, done ranting now, but yes, I care about this elusive creature I call Starbucks Etiquette.
